MILAN - Inter beat ten-man Genoa 3-1 after extra time to set up a Tim Cup quarter-final with Roma.Adriano capped an encouraging performance with the opening goal on 74 minutes but Genoa captain Marco Rossi grabbed a quick equaliser, forcing the onset of extra time.

Esteban Cambiasso and Zlatan Ibrahimovic secured Inter's passage through the last eight with goals in the first period of extra time.Inter made a roaring start and Luis Jimenez made the Nerazzurri's intentions clear with a crisp shot that flew just wide.Crespo had a handful of early chances, sending an angled shot wide with just Scarpi to beat, before heading over Maicon's cross.

Genoa could have taken the lead on 16 minutes when Vanden Borre rounded Toldo and went through on goal after an error by Samuel, but Muntari got back brilliantly to tackle the Belgian.Adriano wasted an even better opportunity three minutes later, seeing his penalty saved by Scarpi after a foul which resulted in the sending-off of Rossoblu defender Biava.

It was one-way traffic for the rest of the half, with Adriano going closest with a header from Maxwell's cross. Both tacticians shuffled their packs at the break, with Gasperini bringing on Greek defender Papastathopoulos for Mesto and Mourinho replacing Muntari with Obinna.

Genoa made a surprising second switch just minutes later, with Criscito on in place of Modesto.Despite the man advantage Inter appeared less commanding for a short period, prompting Mourinho to bring on Cambiasso for Jimenez after Adriano saw his backheeled shot from Obinna's cross saved by Scarpi.

Adriano warmed up for his goal with an overhead kick from another Obinna cross, before putting the Nerazzurri in front with a well taken header from Maxwell's left-wing centre.Genoa equalised within four minutes when Marco Rossi found the top left corner with an unstoppable right-foot shot.

Inevitably, Gasperini's ten men ran out of steam in extra time and Cambiasso made it 2-1 five minutes into the first period, stealing in to crash home after Scarpi failed to hold Ibrahimovic's thunderbolt.

The Swede made the result safe with the cheekiest of goals four minutes later, poking between the legs of Scarpi.
